Cookies policy

What are Cookies?

Cookies are files that may be downloaded to your computer via certain websites. These tools are essential to provide a wide range of services in the information society. Among other purposes, they allow websites to store and retrieve information regarding the user and their computer browsing habits and, depending on the data obtained, they can be used to recognise existing users and improve the services provided.

Types of Cookies

Depending on the company that manages the domain from where the Cookies are sent and /or the company that processes the data obtained, these can be classified into two types:

– Own Cookies: these are sent to the user’s device from a computer or domain that is managed by the editors themselves, which is where the user’s requested services are supplied from.
– Third party Cookies: these are sent to the user’s device from a computer or domain that is not managed by the editors, but rather by a different organisation that processes the data obtained through the Cookies.

Some Cookies are sent to the user’s device from a computer or domain that is managed by the editors, although the data gathered is subsequently managed by a third party. In these cases, they may not be considered as own Cookies.

There is also a second classification according to the period during which the Cookies remain stored in the user’s browser. In this case, they can be classified into:

– Session Cookies: designed to gather and store data while users access a website. They are often used to store information that is only intended to provide the services requested by the user on a specific occasion (i.e., a list of items purchased).
– Persistent Cookies: the data remains stored in the user’s computer and may be accessed and processed for the period of time established by the Cookie manager, ranging from a few minutes to several years.

And finally, there is a further classification dividing Cookies into five different types depending on the purposes for which the data is obtained:

– Technical Cookies: these allow users to browse a Website, platform or application while using the different options and services available, such as traffic and data communication control, session identification, accessing restricted areas, remembering the items included in an order, processing a purchase order, managing subscription or event participation requests, using security devices during browsing, storing contents to play videos or sound or sharing content via social media channels.
– Customisation Cookies: they allow users to access services with certain predefined general features based on a number of criteria set by the user’s computer. Examples of these are language preferences or the type of browser used to connect to a service, regional set-up that the service is accessed from, etc.
– Analysis Cookies: these allow the company in charge to perform monitoring and analysis of users’ behaviour at the corresponding Websites. Any information gathered with this type of Cookies is used to measure activity in a website, application or platform, and also to create user browsing profiles for these websites, applications or platforms in order to introduce improvements based on the analysis of usage data gathered from the service users.
– Advertising Cookies: allow the management of advertising spaces as efficiently as possible.
– Advertising behavioural Cookies: hey store user’s behavioural data obtained through ongoing observation of their browsing habits, allowing them to create a specific profile to show their own advertising based on these parameters.
– External social media Cookies: used to connect visitors to social media platforms (facebook, youtube, twitter, linkedIn, etc.) .and are only generated for users of these social networks. Any relevant user terms and conditions and the data gathered by these Cookies are governed by the privacy policy corresponding to the specific social media platform.
